Flood Proof Houses
In July 2008 the RIBA launched an open design competition on behalf of Norwich Union to challenge designers to come up with innovative and interesting ideas for building housing in flood risk areas.
Our intention is to take a commercially balanced view of minimising the damage and possibility of flooding. We felt that if the project was to be realisable the best approach would be to develop the proposals alongside the prime movers of the residential industry, they being a national volume house builder, in addition to a quantity surveyor and a civil engineer. It is with their endorsement that we believe this vision could be made a practical reality.
