Kielder Observatory, Northumbland
The design takes its inspiration from the universe itself. The observatory therefore becomes a symbolic beacon on earth reflecting the wonder of the sky.Healthcare Feasibility Study The interpretation of the concept has led to the competition brief being questioned and expanded. The building instead of being an independent object is fused into the fabric of the landscape. Together, the fusion creates a moulded sculpture on the landscape; a sculpture of which combines art and architecture providing a new public amenity around the observatory. It is envisaged that the landscape feature is achieved using on site cut and fill.
