Standish Medical Centre, Wigan
An ongoing project completed in February 2012.
QAD were commissioned by healthcare developer One Medical to carry out initial feasibilities to inform their bid to provide a new medical centre to replace existing outdated facilities within Standish. Standish Medical Centre is an existing facility located on Church Street. As part of the Ashton Leigh & Wigan Primary Care Trust estates policy, it is proposed to relocate the existing facility and create a new integrated Primary Care Centre to provide fit for purpose healthcare and cope with an anticipated increase in patient numbers from 11,500 to 15,000.
The new Primary Care Centre is located at the heart of the town on High Street providing a high quality facility for the local community. The site lies within the Conservation Area and is currently occupied by a two storey clinic owned by the Primary Care Trust which will be demolished to allow for the new integrated development.
The proposed primary care centre consists of two storey accommodation and will accommodate up to 9GPs, and 10 other medical professionals with associated consulting rooms and administration areas. This will accommodate the existing facilities currently held at the Standish Medical Centre and also provide additional services currently not available in the area such as GP training.
QAD is appointed as the lead design consultant for the project from inception to completion and has prepared design and planning drawings for the new building. The proposed scheme was submitted for planning approval in March 2010.
