The proposed development merges Aspull Surgery and the Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh NHS Community Clinic into a new state of the art building to provide a community focussed health and wellbeing hub.
The new development will improve upon the existing provision providing flexible modern facilities fit for primary healthcare in the 21st century. The primary care centre is also a response to central government policy of increasing primary care facilities in the communities which they serve, lessening the reliance upon secondary care
The primary aims are:
Visit more in health than sickness
Providing effective healthcare for the community
Creating a community focus which in turn creates social prescribing
Providing education opportunities to patients and the wider community with self help pods
Extending the public realm for use by the community with greater permeability
The proposed new building creates a community focal point maximising the use of open space to the south and integrates the community through the design and layout of the building.
It is proposed that the new primary care centre is constructed on Haigh Road upon the site of the Aspull Clinic, therefore allowing the existing surgery to continue in operation during the build and then being demolished to form the majority of the car park upon completion.
The development will be funded and owned by the experienced healthcare developer One Medical Group, who will then lease the facility primarily to Aspull Surgery as the main occupier of the development over a long-term lease period.
