This vanguard health project is an integral component of the Health Hub at Burnholme, in York, and will provide for relocated facilities from three medical centres plus a new urgent care facility catering for the east side of the city.
Sitting alongside other health / community facilities the scheme looks to transform the delivery of primary care services principally through patient empowerment derived as a direct result of the plan form of the design and its integrated use of technology.
At the heart of the proposal is a public information zone, from which the general public are encouraged to enter the building to seek health related information without necessarily needing to see health practitioners.
The design of the spaces and the flow of the layout has the patient at its core and the patient journey has been paramount in the resolution of the design. This also includes environmental comfort which has been driven primarily through passive measures to achieve a BREEAM ‘excellent’ rating. Future flexibility is incorporated including the potential future conversion of upper storey apartments into health facilities.
