Set within a conservation area, and situated to reinforce the public space adjacent High Street by the creation of a positive edge to bound that space whilst at the same time playing a subservient role within the composition of the square to the 4 Grade II Listed Buildings.

The style of the overall development looks to integrate the traditional material in a modern composition drawing upon the proportions and scale of the context. The principal elevation echoes the vertical proportions of the adjacent library and large domestic building opposite, this then evolves as it turns the corner into a modern shop front formed partly from glass and metal with a solid masonry base. The design incorporates a surgery, primary care trust facilities, and a pharmacy and was heavily influenced by the requirement for a sustainable building and as such achieved a ‘very good’ NEAT rating.
