Won in competition, the scheme was to provide a new medical centre facility to house the main surgery for Stanwix Medical Centre, a branch surgery for Fusehill Surgery and host Carlisle CCG and Cumbria Partnership NHS Foundation Trust.

The over-arching consideration in the design of the building was to create a facility that afforded the opportunity for high level of integration between Primary and Community Services with patient focused service delivery ensuring a high quality patient experience from the point of entry to departure.

The 2.5 storey Medical Centre is located at Eden Street on the site of the former Belah School. Close attention was paid to the siting and orientation of the built form to minimise solar gain and avoid the use of air conditioning / comfort cooling whilst maximising natural daylight and support the principles of sustainable development to deliver this BREEAM ‘Excellent’ scheme.
